On April 10th, the Wind Ensemble, Senior Jazz, and Blue Notes departed for the WorldStrides New York City music festival. After a long bus ride, they arrived just in time to see the New York Mets play the Sacramento Athletics. An early morning on the next day brought the musicians to the Riverside Church, to perform at the festival. Notably, the Wind Ensemble performed Tir Na Nog and Senior Jazz played Caravan. Following the performance, the day was far from over: they visited the Empire State Building, and enjoyed a dinner cruise on the Hudson River, passing by the Statue of Liberty. Finally, the night ended on the bus, when the awards were revealed. Both ensembles received Gold awards, with soloists Roger Zhu and Will Chandra receiving solo maestro performance awards. Everyone was free to enjoy the Sunday off, as they experienced a bus tour of NYC, a BBQ lunch, the Broadway sensation Wicked, and a Chef Yu dinner. To end off the trip, everyone had free time, with some going to Central Park, the Lincoln Center, or the Oculus. The trip was so incredibly eventful, and some photos taken by Julius Yip can be seen below.
