DaCosta’s Down

Welcome to “DaCosta’s Down” the new, weekly NFL and UCC football update. In the weekly update I will provide a quick synopsis of certain games, and will change the teams that I write about each week. The scores will always be listed, even if I do not describe that game.  DaCosta’s Down is very flexible and in certain weeks can focus more on fantasy football or on games, and will always include large descriptions of the UCC football program, both the JVfootball team and the Varsity football team.

However, the DaCosta’s Down report is all about getting the community involved. So if you have a synopsis of your favouriteDaCosta’s Down will always come out on Tuesday, so get your personal game synopsis in byMonday night (by the latest). Please submit your synopsis or questions my email.  For more CIS updates follow @MotivatedSociety on Instagram.- Follow @CryingJordan on Facebook or Twitter for the most hilarious pictures from each game

Car – 20 Denver – 21

The NFL regular season opener proved that the defending champions still have the opportunity to stay atop the AFC. Their high powered defence, with their solid ground game led by tailback Chris Anderson, proves that with a game managing QB you can still win some games. Carolina came out of the gate shooting, but really slowed down in the second half, when the Denver defence amped up the pressure. Needless to say, the Kelvin Benjamin-CamNewton connection is reignited and that aerial attack looks like it has the potential to score a lot of points this year. However, the officials missed three head-head hits on Cam Newton (two of which were fined) and he evaded the concussion protocol during the game, saying that he was okay and showed no symptoms. Luke Kuechly continues to be an animal. In other news,Von Miller and all the other notable Adidas football athletes received Yeezy cleats.

TB -31 Atl – 24

Jameis Winston threw for four touchdown passes, in the upset of the Falcons. The Falcons are avery strong home team and I was shocked that the Bucs pulled off the week 1 victory against the Falcons. However, this shows the growth of the Bucs team and they look to be strong contenders this season.

Bal – 13 Buf- 7

Buffalo started off as predicted, with a loss. They were tied for 24 th in rushing yards this week.J oe Flacco connected with Mike Wallace on a nice deep ball, and Tyrod Taylor still shows that he is a good starting QB, with talent to become a lot better.

Chi -14 Hou – 23

GB- 27 Jax – 23

Jacksonville proved that they could continually respond to the Green Bay Packers high powered offence. The Jacksonville offence without their new signed tailback Chris Ivory, looked composed. Jordy Nelson has like predicted jumped back into that WR1 spot with easy. The Allen-Allen WR duo did not like exactly like it did last year although there will be more to come.

SD – 27 KC- 33 (OT)

Kansas City once again proved that they are getting closer and closer to managing the art of comebacks. Keenan Allen was lost for the season due to a torn ACL. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Oak – 35 NO – 34

Cin – 23 NYJ – 22

Cle – 10 Phi – 29

Carson Wentz showed great QB command for a rookie in his first NFL start. Making rookie mistakes that were not costly to his team. For the Browns signs of their restart were evident as they were outplayed for most of them game. RGIII played his first and last game of the season. Very disappointing as he showed glimpses

Min – 25 Ten – 16

Erik Kendricks was NFC Defensive player of the week. His game changing pick 6 was the crucial part in the Vikings Victory. Derrick Henry and Demarco Murray looked promising, but the Vikings defence played very well to halt them to only 64 yards rushing (Tied for 27th in the league).

Mia – 10 Sea – 12

NYG – 20 Dal – 19

Zeke called his first NFL game average and Dez was held (to the dismay of fantasy owners) to 8 receiving yards and had a touchdown called back on him. The Giants WR core looks dangerous, with Pro Bowler, ODB, rookie Sterling Shepard and Victor Cruz returning after two inactive seasons.

Det – 39 Ind – 35

Very exciting game, wish I had the chance to watch it. Luck couldn’t quite complete the comeback as Detroit snagged the road victory. Fantasy wise a TE on each team played well. Eric Ebron for Detroit and Jack Doyle (2 TD’s). Phillip Dorsett, the sophomore WR played very well.

NE – 23 Ari – 21

The Patriots once again proved why they have been in the AFC championship game six years in a row. Without future Hall of Famer Tom Brady, and All-Pro Tight End Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots managed to beat the NFC West champions in a nail bitter. Jimmy G, showed that he has the skills to be a starting quarterback in the league, using his athleticism to covert crucial 3 rd downs and showing pose in the pocket. Larry Fitzgerald continue to defy father time, with outings that are spectacular to say the least. David Johnson looks poised to becoming the league’s best back in only his second season, and Chandler Jones got a sack and fumble recovery in his Cardinals debut against his old team.

Pit – 38 Was – 16

Washington was questioned heavily on why Josh Norman did not follow the best receiver in the NFL, Antonio Brown. Brown burned Breeland on multiple occasions and Big Ben toyed with Deangelo Hall, playing his first NFL game at safety. Mike Tomlin continues his gusty calls after he called a GO route to AB on a 4 th and 1. Game was not close.

LA – 0 SF – 28

A streaker ran on the field with 11:31 left in the fourth and lead to the best play-by- play of the night by Kevin Harlan (http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game highlights/0ap3000000702037/Kevin-Harlan- s-animated- play-by- play-of- fan-on- field) . The Rams were outplayed on every front and not much can be said. There best defender Aaron Donald was ejected from the game. Carlos Hyde and Blaine Gabbert played well for the 49ers.

UCC Football

The Varsity Football team has been practising since September 3rd and will be playing in an exhibition game this Friday (September the 13th ) at 3pm on the OVAL against St. Thomas Aquinas from London, Ontario. Come out to watch the team in action if you have a 4b spare, or once classes end for the day.

The Junior Varsity football began practices this week and are forward to a great season. With the core coaching staff returning they look poised to compete in the CISAA. The will be playing on Saturday, September 24th at A-Day. A member of the team told me that there is good attendance at practice and that he is excited for this season.
