Sam’s Three Thoughts This Week

By Sam Hodgkins-Sumner

1. Season 1 of “True Detective” was the best piece of television I’ve seen in a long time. Maybe ever. Seriously, if you have either a heart or a brain, or both, you will like this show. In fact, if you haven’t watched it already, go to Project Free TV right now and start binging on that shit. The show includes great acting (courtesy of the McConnaisance and Woody Harrelson), poetic cinematography, existential dialogue, elements of the occult, constant clues and layering, hair-raising suspense, and heart-wrenching drama.

Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey look great in the wind.

2. No way “Oxymoron” was a better album than “good kid mAAd city”. One of my Facebook friends posed that question a while back. Granted, Q has a really great aggressive delivery, and the dark production provides the pallet for the picture of hard living that he paints on the album. But, I’m sorry. If you think that this surpasses Kendrick’s modern classic, you’re trippin’. Kendrick is a much better lyricist, I would say it’s a draw when it comes to production, and the fact that this concept album is so personal and socially conscious puts it way over the top.

3. Kanye has just announced another LP is dropping in 2014. Does this herald another switch-up in his sound? Or will it be Yeezus 2.0 in terms of production?

Will Kanye release another Yeezus? Or will he return back to his roots?
