next one!

13. Charli XCX – Vroom Vroom

Lucky number 13? If you knew me in 2020/2021 (shoutout to my grade 9 Phys Ed. class), I probably tried playing you this song at one point. This is one of the catchiest songs I’ve ever heard and an awesome highlight of Charli’s discography. The bass of the song is in full swing, and the production is top-tier. This song was obviously created with the idea of pushing the boundaries of music in mind, and Charli was able to do all that and make the song fun!

14. FKA twigs – home with you

I was introduced to twigs’ music a bit over a year ago and when I first listened to her album “MAGDALENE”, I was in shock. It was unlike any music I had heard before. “home with you” is the highlight of that album. It’s emotional and beautiful and blossoms into points of the song where you can just feel what she feels. The song has so much production on it, but also feels so unfiltered at the same time. I’m not sure how she does it, but I love it.

15. Caroline Polachek – Billions

This was the first song of Polachek’s that I’d heard, and I still consider it the highlight of her discography. The production brings out Polachek’s voice, and then there’s that ending. She brings in this beautiful choir and I think my body ascended the first time I heard it. The effects on her voice throughout the song are inventive and new. Every moment of the song feels necessary to it’s overall sound.

16. Mitski – Stay Soft

I was on vacation to Arizona the first time I heard this song, and I vividly remember walking through a desert with this song in my ears. It’s one of Mitski’s most conventional songs, but she does the genre well. The song is satisfying in a way––the synths come in at the perfect times, but her voice is never modified. The song doesn’t get tiring after many listens, and it’s one I’d recommend to anyone looking at her music.
