This year, the Festival of Lights concert explored how light can represent peace through bands, choirs, carols, and readings. Together, they honoured festivals around the world revolving around light, like Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa.

As a combined concert, it featured both Upper School ensembles and Prep ensembles, drawing a huge crowd that nearly completely packed Laidlaw Hall. Mr. McGarr was also featured as a guest conductor for the combined band of the Prep and Upper, and this intergrade collaboration was overall an amazing experience. Notably, the best received performance might’ve been from the Prep Choir, as they received rollicking applause for their wonderful renditions of classic holiday songs.

Concluding this event, the speakers lit 4 candles, symbolizing light and peace. Occurring the night before Festive Marketplace, it officially kicked off the holiday season with an amazing atmosphere. I highly recommend all musicians to listen next year, in order to experience the holiday spirit with the whole school.
