Across campus, the blue army had an unreal outpour of athletic performance, and school spirit. Players, and fans both shared a unique experience which undoubtedly strengthened. The marquee event of the day was undoubtedly the Varsity hockey team’s nail-biting clash against BK Selects, a team ranked. The atmosphere at the William P. Wilder Arena was electric, with chants echoing from the stands as the student section waved our iconic “BLUE ARMY” flag with fervor. The game itself was a masterclass in resilience, as UCC battled fiercely against a formidable BK Selects team.

I this photo sums up how electric the atmosphere was. Our energy never wavered, and period by period our chants only got louder.

The blues used this as fuel in regulation, overtime, and shootout, where UCC came out with a dramatic 4-3 finish to send BK Selects to the buses, with Tim Marcotte scoring the game winner to close it out. But WinterFest wasn’t just about hockey. Across campus in the Lett gym, the Varsity basketball team took to the court against Saint Andrew’s College (SAC) in a rivalry that has fueled countless memorable matchups. The game was a thriller from start to finish, with UCC fighting tooth and nail to stay in the contest. However, despite their valiant effort, the final buzzer sounded with the scoreboard reading 60-58 in SAC’s favor. It was a heartbreaker, but the team left the court with their heads held high, knowing they had given it their all. Though it was a strong team performance overall, #34 Daniel Ogunlaja was an MVP for the blues scoring almost 20 points.

Wherever you went across campus on January 25, 2025 you truly could not escape the blue army. Between varsity basketball players joining the crowd for the varsity hockey game, or our dedicated parents, alumni, and students Winterfest showed that the lifeline of the UCC is flowing stronger than ever. The boys well and truly showed up, and put on a clinic of school spirit and adoration for our amazing community.
