Introduction

My first novel – From The Red Depths, is a dystopian science fiction tale set on Mars, following a young Martian boy, Xander, his sister Kia, and their Aunt Brenda as they struggle to survive under constant bombardment from Earth’s forces. The Martians, once settlers from Earth, have been forced underground, enduring poverty, illness, and fear in makeshift tent cities. They’re attacked regularly by “Humans” from Earth who claim Mars as their own, despite the Martians’ long-established presence.

Long before, Earth’s brightest visionaries had looked to Mars as humanity’s next frontier. Spearheaded by the legendary Iron Mask, the first colonization mission to Mars was launched. It was meant to be humanity’s boldest leap forward, but the mission didn’t go as planned. A breakdown in communication, dwindling resources, and Earth’s distractions with its own crises meant that the colonists were abandoned, left to build a life on Mars with no hope of return. Over generations, these pioneers transformed into something new: Martians. They adapted, made Mars their home, and created a society under the open skies and later, underground when the planet’s harsh realities became too much to bear.

Now, centuries later, Earth had come back—not to help but to take. Xander’s people were no longer seen as descendants of those original colonists but as outsiders to be subjugated, alien beings on what Earth now claimed as its own territory. The Humans came with machines, weapons, and an indifference that shattered any shared sense of origin.
